The great aduki bake-off returns! (& me, & Peter Singer)
Aduki in association with Naked espresso/Basil Pizza will be having a VEGAN BAKE OFF on the 14th Feb at 126 King Street, Newtown.
Doors open at 2pm, entries accepted until 2.45pm, judging from 2.50 to 3.20pm and winners are announced at 3.30pm, with entries consumed until 4pm.
This is also a perfect time for any of you Sydney siders to come and say hello. That’s right, I’m flying up there especially for the event. If you’re feeling a bit hesitant about entering or attending, may I direct your attention to the photos from the Great 2008 Aduki Bake-Off. Fucking amazing, a broad range of baked goods and an even broader range of people to eat them. I’m so excited that I’m going to be in the country for this one…
Over Melbourne way, and far less tasty than a bake-off, I’m giving a talk about Neon Pilgrim at Brunswick Library on 4 Feb. It’s free, and you can book here.
Finally, there’s an exciting event happening at the Wheeler Centre on 25 Feb – Peter Singer is giving a lunchtime talk on ‘the beef tax’. Bring your lunch and enjoy! (I’ll be in the front row.)

That’s misleading. I thought you were in a vegan bake-off *with* Peter Singer. I’d fly in for that face-off and especially its related trash talk.

Simon, if I could make it happen, I would! Hmmm… there could be a connection between Singer, me and vegan baking if I took him cookies at his speech.

I’ll be in Sydney until the 9th so I’m going to miss the bake off by 5 days
I’ll have to stuff my pouty face with baked goods of my own I guess.

I’m really looking forward to Peter Singer’s talk. I do want to learn more about the impact of meat consumption on the environment. I’ve really cut down on eating meat lately and have switched to soy instead of dairy (almost completely). Hmm. I think I should get Jonathan Safran Foer’s book so I can learn a bit more.

Jonathan Safran Foer’s book is utterly compelling, amazing, sharp and beautifully written – I’m having physical responses from reading it! Get it – or borrow from me.
I can’t wait for Singer too. Make sure you bring a vego lunch!!
