Tart’n'Round has been open for a few months now, and the local veg blogging mafia has visited, eaten and reviewed – see what Cindy and Michael, Kristy, Carla, Miss T, Johanna and Steph thought about the Thornbury cafe. I’ve heard very mixed reviews. I think it’s pretty universally agreed that their sweet treats are amazing (I salivate at the thought of their cherry bomb balls), but their meals and savouries don’t seem to be hitting the mark just yet.

I went to Tart’N'Round back when it first opened, and had a fairly bland soup of the day (cauliflower, from memory). My second (breakfast) visit recently was better. I had the Veggie Delight ($10.50, from memory):

The stack was good, if a little uninspired (one of those ‘I could make this at home’ dishes). But it was pleasingly large, with nice fresh ingredients cooked well and a surprisngly yummy gluten free bread. The homemade chutney was slightly spicy which I liked.

Sadly, the coffee was on the weak side and also bitter:

I don’t know what others think, but the atmosphere in the cafe feels a little sterile to me. It’s not somewhere I could imagine lingering.

Although it’s not my favourite, Tart’N'Round is proving pretty popular with the veg crowd (it’s my tip for VNV‘s Veg Restaurant of the year winner), and I think with all that support out there it will continue to grow and improve.
